Isocoma menziesii ~ Coastal Goldenbush

Isocoma menziesii grows from the coast to the tops of the Coastal Ranges. This includs the hot interior valleys in what is left of the Sage Scrub and Chapparal communites. Isocoma menziesii grows in both dry and wetland locations, good soil and bad. Coastal Goldenbush has a long blooming period from Spring through Fall. Isocoma menziesii grows 2-3 feet tall often spreading to twice that width. The green to gray-green foliage is topped by golden yellow cone flowers when moisture is available Summer into Fall. There are a wealth of butterflies that regularly visit the blooming Coastal Goldenbush including the Mournful Duskywing, Great Purple Hairstreak, Gray Hairstreak, White Checkered Skipper, Northern White Skipper, California Common Ringlet, Mormon Metalmark, and the Painted Lady. Between the long blooming period and the way butterflies flock to the flowers there is a lot to like.
