Iochroma grandiflora * Blue Angel's Trumpet

Iochroma grandiflora has larger blue flowers and tropical leaves than the more common Iochroma cyaneum and is related to the Trumpet Tree or Angels Trumpet. The plants are moderatelyfrost hardy. Mine have withstood temperatures in the mid-twenties with a little leaf burn, but without ceasing to bloom. Iochroma grandiflora is reportedly hardy down to 20° F, my plants have withstood 25° F and looked good. Shrubs get to 10-12 feet tall and wide and are nearly always some of these blue flowers showing off. They are a great plant for attracting hummingbirds as I am sure you can imagine from the shape of their flowers.
