Eucalyptus polyanthemos - Silver Dollar Gum, Red Box
Eucalyptus polyanthemos, the Silver Dollar Gum is a midsized drought tolerant tree. Eucalyptus polyanthemos has round silver leaves that are great in arrangements. The early creamy white flowers make Eucalyptus polyanthemos a favorite tree for attracting hummingbirds to your garden. During our Christmas Bird Count these trees can be depended upon to have a few choice warblers and a wealth of hummingbird activity. Eucalyptus polyanthemos is fairly fast growing. The tips of the branches trail. Periodic safety pruning is recommended if the trees are a liablity if they drop branches. The Silver Dollar Gum has survived winter temperatures in our gardens to below 20°F.
