Aristolochia gigantea ~ Pelican Flower Vine

Aristolochia gigantea is a Dutchmans Pipe relative. The meat red flowers attract insects and they get trapped in the flowers. Aristolochia gigantea has larger flowers and is a more tender species than Aristolochia littoralis. The Pelican Flower Vine is tender with temperatures anywhere below freezing. While Aristolochia gigantea plants may recover from the roots the top is very tender. Aristolochia gigantea typically has 4" blooms and leaves in our area. The Pelican Flower prefers moist soil. The vines can reach 20 feet or more in suitable conditions. The Pelican Flower Vine attracts the Pipevine Swallowtail to your Butterfly Garden.
