Anisacanthus quadrifidus wrightii - Hummingbird Bush, Mexican Flame

Anisacanthus quadrifidus wrightii forms a dense shrub around 2 feet wide and up to 4 feet tall. The orange red flowers are the perfect model of what should attract a hummingbird, no surprise, it works. The Mexican Flame is native to Texas and Northern Mexico. In the wild Anisacanthus quadrifidus wrightii is found on rocky soils but in a garden setting the plants are tolerant of garden conditions, living on low water and in heavy soils. Anisacanthus quadrifidus wrightii blooms Summer into Fall and may bloom following a surprise watering. Plants are hardy down to 10°s F, though they may die back to the ground.
